Mood swings - when emotions are out of balance

Whether man or woman, everyone experiences mood swings. A good feeling, which changes from one second to the other into a negative one or vice versa. Most of the time, you can't explain to yourself why or where the sudden change in mood comes from. But the ups and downs of emotions are more than just inexplicable, they can become a real burden in everyday life and in dealing with other people. But what exactly is behind it and what can be done about it?

The sudden change in feelings, which one cannot explain to oneself, can be based on several causes. The most common reason is usually a depressive mood, which leads to a general imbalance of the state of mind. This can be very stressful for those affected. This is because the ups and downs of emotions are exhausting, cannot be controlled and can lead to conflicts with friends and family members. Hormones are often responsible for this, especially in women. As soon as the body's sensitive hormone balance changes, feelings also get out of control. This can be the case especially during menstruation, pregnancy, menopause or as a side effect of taking hormonal contraceptives.

However, physical causes can also be a reason for uncontrollable mood swings. For example, if the body lacks important nutrients such as iron or magnesium, this deficiency affects the circulation.

The first course of action in the event of stressful mood swings should therefore be to see your doctor. Physical illnesses or deficiency symptoms should be clarified and ruled out in order to get to the root of the problem. Moments of calm, such as during meditation, can be particularly helpful, but a change in diet and, in particularly severe cases, psychotherapy can also offer a solution.
